London eye are margaritas!

Today we started out with a walk around our neighborhood as we headed towards the British Library. Inside was a museum that I simply found fascinating. I wasn't really looking forward to it because, well, it was a library. It was filled with books, manuscripts, and other written works. But once we arrived I became in tranced. I was surprised to find myself so engaged as I went around to every section to read about what was  on display. I was happy when I was able to recognize names such as Keats, as I had read his work in my British Literature class this past semester. Also, when I stumbled upon the manuscript of Beowulf I was very excited, fore when I had read that epic in highschool it made me sure that I wanted to pursue British Literature. After that, me and Meagan wandered around London enjoying the nice weather as we headed back to the hotel. Then we met up with everyone to go on the London Eye! It was a long, hot wait, but worth it! It was magical! Then back to the hotel as we took leisure time and caught up on homework. Then we ventured to Benito's Hat for a Mexican dinner and two for one margaritas. I had been looking forward to Mexican and margaritas for over a week and a half now and I was by disappointed! Now we are eagerly heading to Kinky Boots, and I'm sure the show will not disappoint! How exciting!

  1. I too enjoyed the British Library! I very much appreciated the fact they had a "UK Gay" section, detailing the history of gay rights in the United Kingdom involving literature and legislation. I was nervous about the Eye mostly because I am deathly afraid of heights. The slow turn of the pods that circle the London Eye, made the experience a comfortable one. It was a moment I will never forget!

  3. Rachel,
I loved the British Library! The manuscript of Beowulf was amazing. It was one of my favorite things to see and I lingered near it for at least five minutes. I may have teared up a bit when I saw William Shakespeare's signature at the bottom of one of his sonnets. In addition, it was fascinating to see his play "Venus and Adonis" in original manuscript form because I was not extremely familiar with it. My eyes also remained glued to original Tolstoy works, nautical maps of various oceans and seas, a globe of the world painted in signs of the Zodiac, and the scribblings of lyrics and letters by the Beatles themselves.
The London eye was a wonderful experience! Did you know 15,000 tourists visit it per day? We were 22 of the 15,000...interesting to dwell upon that thought. Something Merry and I discussed was how many Brits we saw while waiting in the queue. I have noticed a number of British people at popular tourist spots throughout our trip. I suppose people in Duluth participate in some of the tourist events and frequent tourist locations, but I still find it something interesting to consider as well.
