Theater workshop day!

Today started out with a struggle. There were a few things forgotten at the hotel and a few people got turned around on the way to the Victoria and Albert museum. The few of us who got to the museum first found our tour guide Dr. Kevin Quarmby. We all introduced ourselves as did he we talked about our majors then the rest of the group arrived.
In the museum we started off learning about some history of theatre in London and history of London in general. At 11 o'clock there was a national moment of silence for the bombing victims of Manchester. After the moment of silence we continued on to the theatre history part of the museum. We learned about different forms of costumes they had, theatres, dressing rooms, and stage effects. We also got to try on some costumes there. Something that all actors needed to know back in the day was how to sword fight. One simple mistake could cost someone their life.

Afterwords some of us went to the science museum. There were exhibits going from old steam engines to new revolutionary technology. There were 4 floors to explore my favorite floor was the atmosphere floor. There were mini games to play and it had air conditioning.

After the museum we came back to the hotel and rested. A few of us had laundry to do, so we rushed and got it done and then off to the theatre. We saw an amazing performance of The Play That Goes Wrong. Just about any and everything you could think of went wrong in some way or form. It was one of my favorite performances yet!

  1. Caleb,
Trying costumes on was a favorite part of the day for me! I loved that we had girls wearing "male" costumes and guys (like you) wearing "female" costumes. Especially after last nights performance where we experienced lots of cross dressing. As something that happens a lot in theatre it was cool to experience at the museum. At the Science Museum, I was very grateful for the air conditioning as well! Who knew London would be so dang hot this week?? I also greatly enjoyed this nights play. This whole week has been full of phenomenal performances, all great in different ways.

  2. I was so exited to find out that Professor Q was our tour guide! He had came to my class to teach last semester as part of his application process and I adored him! I am also thrilled to have him as a professor next year! Learning about all the different costumes was fascinating! Trying on costumes was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I am glad that people bullied me into it. It was nice to get a groups picture of all of us!
